Ideal for: Intermediate/advanced sailors seeking true sporty sailing with long crossings and exciting planing. Perfect for those with coastal cruising experience wanting to move to offshore sailing. Enthusiasts of wild nature, advanced snorkeling, astrophotography and total disconnection. Foodies who love authentic Mediterranean cuisine. Lovers of authentic Greece who have already visited the Cyclades/Ionians and seek less known destinations. Marine photographers and Greek mythology enthusiasts. Also suitable for families with children 10+ years seeking educational adventure.
Different from: Standard tourist cruises to the Cyclades (Mykonos/Santorini) – this itinerary is 90% less touristy, without Instagram crowds or inflated prices. Different from short coastal cruises – here you do real offshore sailing with two open-sea crossings of 40+ miles. Better than standard charter catamarans – the Walkabout 43 is faster, sportier, more authentic sailing experience. Navigation to Alonissos, heart of the Sporades National Marine Park protecting the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus – only 700 specimens worldwide). The Walkabout 43 planes over the Aegean waves with longer, sportier navigation. Anchorage in isolated bay with seabeds rich in marine life and visibility up to 30 meters. Relax on the teak stern swim platform with freshwater shower. Evening: visit to the fortified medieval Chora with traditional tavernas, local dishes and Assyrtiko wine.

Navigation to Kira Panagia, uninhabited island in the Marine Park’s heart with high probability (70%) of spotting Tursiops truncatus dolphins. Anchorage in protected bay, total immersion in nature: only wind and sea, no human noise. Tender exploration of coves accessible only by sea. Possible excursion (30 min trekking) to the abandoned 13th-century Byzantine monastery. Lunch and dinner on board with Mediterranean menu. Overnight at anchor under starry sky perfect for astronomical observations (Milky Way very detailed).
DAY 4 – Halkidiki: Great Crossing
Arrival: Marathias Beach, Halkidiki (39° 56.6367′ N, 023° 55.6776′ E) | Distance: 36 nautical miles | Sailing time: 5-6 hours | Don’t miss: North Aegean crossing, planing sporty sailing, Cape Sithonia, Meltemi | Activities: Offshore sailing, marine photography
The longest and sportiest navigation: crossing from the Sporades to Halkidiki (Greek “Halkidiki”). We head toward the Sithonia peninsula, the wildest and most authentic of the peninsula’s three “fingers.”
The Walkabout 43 shows its sailing qualities: planing hull, twin rudders, autopilot – the light, high-performance boat sails fast pushed by the breezes.
Cape Sithonia offers spectacular views with cliffs dropping 100m to the sea. Afternoon anchorage in protected bay on the eastern coast. Sunset aperitif and dinner on board after hours of active sailing.
DAY 5 – Halkidiki: Secret Bays
Area: Halkidiki Peninsula, Kalamitsi (40° 00.0086′ N, 024° 00.1462′ E) | Distance: 8 nautical miles | Sailing time: 1.5 hours | Don’t miss: Pristine bays, tender exploration, authentic villages | Activities: Snorkeling, sport fishing, excursions
Exploration of Halkidiki, an authentic area less touristy than Greece (80% less visited compared to Mykonos/Santorini). Coastal navigation searching for perfect bays: inlets with golden beaches, rocky coves, transparent seabeds. Intensive use of tender to explore marine caves and coves accessible only by sea. Relaxed pace: multiple swims, cockpit reading under the bimini, fresh lunches on board, sport fishing. Evening option: mooring in small traditional port (Toroni or Porto Koufo) for walk and taverna dinner with mezze and grilled fish.
DAY 6 – LIMNOS: Toward Hephaestus’ Island
Area: Mourtzephlos Beach (39° 58.8824′ N, 025° 02.5906′ E) | Distance: 48 nautical miles | Sailing time: 6-8 hours | Don’t miss: Open sea crossing, authentic offshore sailing, arrival north Limnos coast, volcanic sunset | Activities: Sailing, marine photography, marine fauna spotting, night astronomy
The most epic navigation of the itinerary: open-sea crossing from Halkidiki to Limnos island crossing the North Aegean. Dawn wake-up with substantial breakfast (Greek yogurt, local honey, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs) to face the long day of offshore sailing. Detailed weather briefing: synoptic chart reading, Meltemi wind forecasts (typically 15-20 knots from North), optimal route analysis.
Departure is at 7:00-8:00 AM to take advantage of daylight hours and arrive before sunset. The Walkabout 43 leaves Halkidiki’s protected bay and takes to the open sea: here you understand why this ocean-going hull is different from standard charters. With fresh wind from North-Northwest (the classic Aegean Meltemi), the boat settles into close-hauled attitude, the twin rudder guarantees perfect control, and the optimized sail plan allows constant progress at 7-8 knots with peaks of 9-10 knots in gusts.
Hours of pure sailing: the sea changes color from coastal turquoise to deep ocean blue (200-300 meters depth). High probability (60%) of spotting stenella dolphins accompanying the boat, and in migration season (August-September) possible sightings of greater shearwaters and Mediterranean gulls. The skippers explain dead reckoning navigation, sail trim techniques to maximize speed and comfort. Those who want can take the helm and experience the thrill of steering a fast boat in open sea.
Light lunch on board without stopping navigation: fresh Greek salad, pita with tzatziki, Kalamata olives, feta and tomatoes. The crew takes turns at the helm if they like or leaves the NKE autopilot to its task. Afternoon sailing: the hot sun, constant wind, water lapping on the hull create a sensation of total freedom. Perfect moment for reading, deep conversations, or simply contemplating the infinite sea.
Around 4:00-5:00 PM the profile of Limnos appears on the horizon: the volcanic island sacred to Hephaestus, Greek god of fire and metallurgy. Legend tells that Zeus hurled Hephaestus from Olympus and the god fell right on Limnos, where he was welcomed and cared for by the inhabitants. The island became his divine forge, where he forged weapons for the gods and jewelry for the goddesses.
Arrival at Limnos’ north coast with its dark volcanic rock formations contrasting with the blue sea. Anchorage in Mourtzephlos bay or Keros Beach: wild, deserted beaches, golden sand mixed with black lava pebbles, crystalline water with green reflections. After 6-8 hours of sailing, the first dive in these waters is an indescribable sensation: total refreshment, satisfaction of the completed crossing, absolute silence (no tourist structures within kilometers).
Limnos sunset: the volcanic colors of the land (reds, ochres, blacks) ignite with the warm light of the setting sun. Celebratory aperitif in the cockpit with local ouzo and appetizers prepared by the skippers. Special dinner after the great navigation: fresh grilled fish (if caught during the crossing), otherwise handmade tagliatelle with ragù sauce. Day’s stories, navigation analysis, shared emotions.
Night at anchor: the Limnos sky, far from any light pollution, offers an extraordinary astronomical spectacle. The Milky Way is clearly visible, constellations are brilliant, possible shooting star sightings (especially in August during the Perseids). Overnight lulled by gentle rolling and the sound of waves on the deserted beach.
DAY 7 – LIMNOS: Hephaestus’ Island
Area: Myrina (39° 53.1457′ N, 025° 03.6184′ E) | Distance: 7 nautical miles | Sailing time: 1 hour | Don’t miss: Byzantine castle of Myrina, unique volcanic beaches, archaeological museum, authentic local cuisine, castle sunset | Activities: Cultural exploration, light trekking, local craft shopping, traditional taverna dinner
Gentle awakening in the deserted bay with sun illuminating the volcanic rocks. Abundant breakfast in the cockpit: freshly made Italian coffee, yogurt with orange blossom honey, fresh fruit, traditional sweets. Last morning swim in transparent waters before setting sail for Myrina, the island’s picturesque capital.
Relaxed coastal navigation along Limnos’ western coast: unique volcanic landscapes with dark promontories diving into the turquoise sea, hidden coves, small pristine beaches. Possibility to stop for an extra swim in one of the most beautiful bays with fine golden sand and shallow waters ideal for snorkeling.
Arrival in Myrina around 3:00 PM: the picturesque harbor dominated by the Byzantine-Venetian castle rising on the rocky hill dividing the city into two bays (Romeikos Gialos and Tourkikos Gialos). The city presents itself with its authentic character: colorful neoclassical houses (yellow, pink, blue), narrow cobbled streets, centuries-old plane trees shading the squares, Greek cats sleeping in the sun.
Afternoon of cultural exploration: Myrina is a living, authentic city, far from the Cyclades’ mass tourism. Walk along the Romeikos Gialos waterfront with traditional café tables facing the sea. Possible visit to the Archaeological Museum of Limnos (small but rich): Neolithic period artifacts (6,000 BC), ceramics from the ancient city of Poliochni (the oldest city in Europe, founded 3,800 BC, before Troy!), Hellenistic sculptures, Byzantine collection.
Castle trekking: 20-30 minutes climb on panoramic path through Venetian walls (13th century built on Byzantine remains). From the summit, spectacular 360° view: Myrina’s two bays, the harbor with the Walkabout 43 moored, Limnos’ volcanic hinterland, the islands of Agios Efstratios and Samothrace on the horizon, Mount Athos on clear days. The castle is inhabited by Sardinian deer (introduced in 1970, now island symbol) peacefully grazing among the ruins: magical moment for photographs and close encounters with wildlife.
Relaxation: swim at nearby Richa Nera beach: fine volcanic sand, transparent waters, sunbeds and umbrellas available, beach bar for cold cocktails. Limnos has an authentic Greek pace: slow life, genuine hospitality, sincere smiles.
Authentic craft shopping: downtown streets host traditional shops. Don’t miss: Limnos thyme honey (among Greece’s best, produced by bees foraging on volcanic slopes rich in aromatic plants), local Muscat wine of Limnos (sweet, amber, produced from ancient vines), local cheeses (melichloro, kalathaki), artisan ceramics (Limnos has millennial ceramic tradition), natural soaps with mountain herbs.
Traditional taverna dinner on the harbor: choose one of the historic tavernas frequented by locals. Order: assorted mezze to start (melitzanosalata, taramosalata, dolmades, saganaki), fresh fish of the day grilled (lavraki, tsipoura, sargo), grilled octopus with Santorini fava, flomaria (local long pasta similar to handmade tagliatelle with lobster sauce), Limnos salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, capers, paximadi). Accompany with cold Muscat white wine or full-bodied Limnos red. Dessert: galaktoboureko (cream in filo pastry) or Greek artisan ice cream.
This is authentic Greece: not Mykonos or Santorini, but the island where Greeks themselves vacation to rediscover their roots.
Late evening return to boat: last night aboard Walkabout 43 moored in Myrina port. The illuminated castle in the background, city lights reflected in the water, gentle boat rolling, memories of 7 days of navigation and adventures.
DAY 8 – Myrina: Farewell to the Next Adventure
