Rineia: Discovery and Enchantment in Turquoise Waters

Fifth day of navigation

The fifth day of our exciting sailing cruise takes us to the splendid Rineia, a gem among the Cycladic islands, nestled near the famous Delos. As we get closer, the features that make Rineia so special are revealed: solitary bays and hidden lagoons, where the transparent, crystalline water invites refreshing dives and snorkeling sessions to explore underwater.

Rineia, little known as it is uninhabited and has no tourist accommodation facilities, offers an oasis of peace and uncontaminated natural beauty. Its coasts are a canvas painted in blue and green, while the fine sandy beaches blend harmoniously with the barren Mediterranean scrub that radiates the scent of wild herbs in the warm sun.

This uninhabited island transforms into a private paradise for visitors. In such an idyllic setting, each of us can enjoy absolute tranquility on a boat or exploring the ancient ruins that dot the island, silent witnesses of a past civilization. Its history dates back to more than 2000 years ago when the Athenians designated the island for the burial and birth of every living thing. From the then capital Delos they had all the tombs moved and forced every pregnant woman to give birth in Rineia.

As the sun follows its course in the sky, we enjoy immersing ourselves in the clear waters of Rineia, letting the serenity of the island envelop us, knowing that every moment spent here is a precious memory that will embellish our sailing cruise in the Cyclades.

Delos Antica: Journey to the Sacred Heart of the Cyclades

Sixth day of sailing holiday

The sixth day of the sailing holiday opens with a short stretch of navigation. A gentle awakening on the waves that takes us to a place of living history, Delos.

This ancient Greek island, considered sacred since ancient times, awaits us to give us a day of exploration among its priceless archaeological treasures.

The archaeological park of Delos is one of the most significant historical sites in the country and in the entire Mediterranean. Characterized by a rich mythological history, the island is linked to the cult of Apollo, god of light, and his sister Artemis, and according to legend it is the place of their birth.

The archaeological site of Delos is a true open-air museum, one of a kind. Walking among its ruins, visitors can admire the remains of ancient temples, challenging statues, intricate mosaics, and an array of residential and public buildings that reflect the political and religious importance that Delos had in the ancient world.

Among the highlights of Delos is the Terrace of the Lions, where the famous marble lion statues watch over the island, erected to protect the sanctuary of Apollo. Another significant element is the Agora of the Ittii, the market of the Ittii, a very busy trade center in antiquity, which testifies to the vital role of Delos as a commercial hub of the ancient world.

The archaeological park also houses the Theater of Delos, which demonstrates the love and importance that ancient Greek culture reserved for the performing arts. Furthermore, visitors can explore the Competaliasti Quarter, with its luxurious homes adorned with magnificent floor mosaics.

Preserved as a UNESCO heritage site, Delos is not only a place of inestimable archaeological value, but also a site of extraordinary energy and beauty. A visit to this ancient and sacred ground proves to be an almost mystical experience, connecting every traveler with the deep roots of Western civilization and the beauty and power of the ancient world.
