Sailing Cruise Itinerary from Samos to the Cyclades

This sailing adventure across the Aegean Sea promises to be an extraordinary experience—a perfect blend of navigation, culture, relaxation, and discovery. Starting from Samos, an island rich in history and charm, is the ideal way to embark on a journey that explores the most fascinating and authentic destinations in the northern Aegean, the Dodecanese, and the Cyclades.

The first stop, Patmos, exudes a unique spiritual atmosphere, highlighted by the famous Monastery of Saint John and ancient churches that seem suspended in time. It’s a perfect place to connect with the profound and spiritual essence of Greece.

Donoussa offers the authentic heart of the Cyclades—an untouched island with deserted beaches and crystal-clear waters, perfect for those seeking a pure connection with nature and moments of absolute peace. Koufonissi is another must-visit, cherished for its golden sandy beaches and turquoise waters that contrast beautifully with the landscape, making it a favorite among Italian travelers.

Continuing along our sailing adventure, we head toward Schinoussa, a serene retreat with golden hills and a tranquil Chora where the slow, relaxed pace invites you to savor every moment. A special stop in Ikaria Bay, accessible only by sea, promises to be one of the most enchanting and captivating moments of the entire sailing experience. At just 8 meters deep lies the wreck of a German seaplane from World War II, perfectly visible thanks to the crystalline waters. Even without deep diving, a simple mask lets you explore this piece of submerged history, steeped in mystery and allure.

Finally, Ios welcomes us with its dual charm: dreamy beaches and a vibrant nightlife, perfect for celebrating the end of the journey with a touch of excitement.

This itinerary offers much more than stops at charming islands and picturesque villages. It gives you the chance to explore hidden corners and secluded bays, often accessible only by sea. You’ll be immersed in an atmosphere of total tranquility, surrounded only by the sound of the waves and the unspoiled beauty of nature.

Evenings aboard the Walkabout are the highlight of the experience, with fiery sunsets over the Aegean Sea and starlit skies creating a magical, intimate, and captivating ambiance.

With skippers who not only manage the sailing safely but also excel in the kitchen, you’ll savor gourmet dishes that combine the best of Mediterranean and Italian cuisine. This makes your time aboard a culinary journey as well.

Sailing from Samos to Ios, exploring the Small Cyclades, is more than just a sailing holiday. It’s an immersion into the culture, nature, and traditions of Greece, perfectly balancing the exhilaration of sailing with the relaxation of secluded coves and breathtaking landscapes.

Second Day: Heading to Patmos

The day begins with a delightful breakfast aboard the sailboat, a quiet moment to enjoy the first rays of sunlight and the fresh morning air as we prepare to set sail. With a sense of adventure, we lift anchor and hoist the sails, ready to explore new horizons en route to Patmos.

During the journey, the crosswind propels us smoothly toward the island. We arrive at a beautiful bay on the northern side of Patmos, where we drop anchor for a relaxing break. Aboard the boat, a delicious and unique lunch awaits: your chef has prepared a creative twist on the classic Greek salad, enriched with fresh and unexpected ingredients that highlight the authentic flavors of Mediterranean cuisine. This meal is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in Greek aromas and tastes, enjoying the tranquility of the sea and the gentle sway of the boat.

In the afternoon, we resume sailing for a short stretch to the port, where you can disembark to explore the renowned Monastery of Saint John and the mystical Cave of the Apocalypse—two of Patmos’s most iconic landmarks, both designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Monastery of Saint John, founded in 1088, dominates the hill above Chora (the island's ancient hilltop village) and is visible from much of the island. Its architecture resembles a medieval fortress, with thick walls and towers built to defend it from pirates and invaders. The monastery is dedicated to the Apostle John, traditionally believed to have lived on the island and written the Book of Revelation here.
Inside, the monastery houses a splendid church adorned with centuries-old frescoes, intricate mosaics, and Byzantine religious icons. The main chapel, with its gilded furnishings and soft lighting, creates a mystical and solemn atmosphere.

The Cave of the Apocalypse, located between Skala and Chora, is one of the most revered sites in Orthodox Christianity. According to tradition, it was here that Saint John received divine revelations, later compiled into the Book of Revelation. The cave’s entrance is modest, but once inside, the space radiates a mystical aura.
At the center of the cave lies a small indentation in the rock, where John is believed to have rested his head while receiving his visions. Another striking feature is a fissure in the rock, said to have miraculously formed during John's revelations, symbolizing the voice of God speaking through the stones.

Visiting these sacred sites is not just a tourist experience but a spiritual journey. The sanctity and energy that permeate the monastery and the cave make the visit particularly profound. It’s an opportunity to delve into the island’s history and spirituality, touching the places that inspired one of Christianity’s most mysterious and symbolic texts.

The evening concludes with dinner in the village of Skala, where you can savor local cuisine and unwind after a day filled with sailing, exploration, and culinary delights.
